What you pay for a pneumococcal vaccine depends on your eligibility and which product is used. Hong Kong has four approved pneumococcal vaccines.

Free or subsidised

  • Government Vaccination Programme (GVP): eligible adults aged 65+ (with specific chronic conditions or in residential care) can be vaccinated free or subsidised. The current elderly schedule is one dose of PCV15 followed by one dose of PPSV23 a year later.
  • Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (VSS): for 2025/26, the subsidy is HK$400 per dose for PPSV23 and HK$800 per dose for PCV15. PCV13 and PCV20 are not on the subsidy list and are fully self-paid.

Full self-pay private-market reference prices (per dose)

  • PPSV23 (Pneumovax 23, manufacturer MSD): about HK$450.
  • PCV13 (Prevenar 13, manufacturer Pfizer): about HK$1,300.
  • PCV15 (Vaxneuvance, manufacturer MSD): about HK$1,600.
  • PCV20 (Prevenar 20, manufacturer Pfizer): about HK$2,000–2,150 (some packages include the consultation).

The products differ in how many serotypes they cover and in the schedule used, and a higher price does not mean a product is necessarily right for you. Which one to get, and how many doses, depends on your age, health conditions and prior vaccination history — discuss it with your family doctor and refer to the Centre for Health Protection's pneumococcal vaccine guidance.

These are indicative private-market ranges as of June 2026 and vary by clinic and whether a consultation is included. Confirm the current fee with the clinic before you go.
