Elderly Health Care Vouchers can be used for vaccination. Before spending vouchers, check whether you qualify for free vaccination first.
Who qualifies and how much
Hong Kong residents aged 65 or above with a valid Hong Kong Identity Card receive HK$2,000 in vouchers each year. Unused vouchers accumulate, but the total is capped at HK$8,000. The government issues vouchers automatically; no application is needed.
You can use them for vaccines
Vouchers can be used for vaccination services at participating private healthcare providers, including flu and pneumococcal vaccines. Before getting vaccinated, confirm with the clinic or doctor that they take vouchers and check the vaccine cost.
Use free vaccination first
Many people aged 65 or above already qualify for free vaccination under the Government Vaccination Programme (GVP) and can get flu and pneumococcal vaccines free at public clinics or outreach sessions. If you're eligible, the free route is the better deal, and you can keep your vouchers for other medical costs.
Watch the annual limit
Vouchers are issued yearly and capped. If you plan to use vouchers for things beyond vaccines, such as private doctor or dental visits, check your balance first.
