Getting the flu shot and the COVID-19 vaccine on the same day is an approach endorsed by Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection.

Same-day is fine

The Centre for Health Protection states that, under informed consent, the COVID-19 vaccine can be given at the same time as the seasonal flu vaccine (including the inactivated, live-attenuated nasal and recombinant flu vaccines), or at any time before or after it. Same-day vaccination is convenient and helps raise coverage of both vaccines.

Spacing them out is also fine

If you prefer to separate the two, an interval of about 14 days is enough. Both options work, depending on your schedule and the vaccination site's arrangements.

Why both are recommended

People infected with flu and COVID-19 at the same time may be more seriously ill and have a higher risk of death. Flu vaccination helps reduce the chance of hospitalisation and the length of stay. For high-risk groups, getting both vaccines together gives broader protection.

Where to get them

Same-day vaccination is offered at participating private doctors, District Health Centres, and the Hospital Authority's general outpatient clinics and public hospitals. Check with the site beforehand to confirm they offer same-day vaccination.
